Despite believing such a deal was almost impossible in recent months, Barcelona are quietly optimistic over signing Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window with the best scenario being a deal being completed in the next week.During the summer months, the Blaugrana were accused of Sbo arrogance in their pursuit of the Brazilian, there was an assumption he would arrive eventually even though Liverpool were adamant the midfielder wasn't for sale.Such an attitude left the Merseyside club livid and as the summer transfer window drew to a close, the doors for negotiation were slammed shut in the face of the Catalan giants.Liverpool were forced to make public statements denying any transfer during the summer, however the situation at the present moment is rather different.Coutinho is still committed to securing his dream transfer this month; however his performances on the pitch in the first half of the season have not dipped to any degree. If anything he has moved up a gear from the 2016/17 season despite sitting out much Sbo of the early matches of the campaign. The change in mood within the offices at the Camp Nou stems from the English club's newfound willingness to negotiate, the doors are open once more.At this moment, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and technical secretary Robert Fernandez are leading preliminary talks with Liverpool; the president is however leading proceedings.A price of 120 million euros with Sbo further bonus payments is the fee currently being discussed in Catalonia and such a deal would make the former Inter playmaker the club's record signing, eclipsing the 105m euros paid for Ousmane Dembele in the summer. As a result, the most hopeful of predictions emanating out of the LaLiga leaders is that a presentation of Coutinho could take place as early as next week.Yet, we are not at the point of a deal yet with The Times suggesting that Liverpool will not consent to any offer lower than 150m euros, meaning there is currently a 30m euro gap between the valuations of the player from the two clubs. However, Barcelona hope to patch that up via performance related bonuses.Sbo
